Your Hosts
Niki and Graham
We are a German-Welsh couple, who are enthusiastic touring cyclists and mountain hikers. On one of our tours from Turin via Cinque Terre to La Spezia, we fell in love with the beautiful region of the Alta Langha. On a balmy summer evening with a colorful sunset and cicada songs, we had the idea of settling down here.
We are happy to help you with tips on sights, restaurants and tours around the Langhe.

Our Eponym
The Scops Owl
Italian: l assiolo
In spring especially, but also all year round, the call of the scops owl accompanies us in the evening and at night.
With a bit of luck, you might catch a glimpse of this shy fellow or one of his colleagues (the photo shows a tawny owl).
Sustainability
We try as best we can to put our house on a sustainable footing. For example, we installed a photovoltaic system at the beginning of 2024 and plan to retrofit a heat pump in the medium term.
We only use organic cleaning agents. As we are not connected to the municipality's wastewater system, this is even more important to us than in the city.
Borgata Garombo
The Borgata Garombo with its few houses is within walking distance of the village center.
We are the first house when you approach the Borgata via the small street coming from Prunetto. A small bakery and butcher's shop can be reached on foot in 15 minutes. Also within walking distance is the restaurant Bar della Piazza and Agriturismo Rudino.
Our House
The Cascina Assiolo was originally the old barn, which was renovated in 2008. It is surrounded by a spacious garden space.
The old residential house
The 150-year-old house is no longer inhabited.
We dream of one day being able to restore the house to its former glory.
For now its courtyard is a quiet, shaded reading spot. Or in the evening, a place to gather around our traditional wood fired oven, creating your perfect pizza.
